Mikael Backlund
Swedish professional hockey player Mikael Backlund, is currently serving as an alternate captain for the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League. The former first round draft pick was taken by Calgary in 2007 and is the longest-serving forward for the Flames, being with the team now for a decade after debuting in his call-up from the Kelowna Rockets of the Western Hockey League in the 2008-09 season.
From a 19 year old blue-chip prospect to a now shutdown centre, Backlund has earned his role as a top NHL player and is recognized as such:
